OPTICKS: OR, ATREATISE OF THE Reflections, Refractions, Inflections and Colours OF LIGHT.
The Optics series offers a re-reading of an analytical study of light as an element which draws and deforms the images that surround us. A dialogue is established between photographs of an image projected on a screen, and diagrams which form a part of an inventory of light distortions from the 18th century.
In the optical diagrams developed by Isaac Newton in 1703, there is a fixation on describing the exactitude of the tangible and the intangible. Newton’s analysis of optical matters focuses on reciprocal relations of light and nature, the behavior and refractions of light through various objects, the elements and natural conductors of light such as water and air.
Just like the refraction effects studied by Newton, contemporary screens generate a distortion in the perception of images, as the image blurs when looked at through the mirror of the screen. This effect is one of the so-called visual aberrations and it forms a part of our visual inventory.
Optics invites us to re-read Newton’s inventory and to meditate on the subject of images that we consume off luminous blinking surfaces and which distance us from reality. Optics is an answer to the melancholy of a sensitive surface of the image, and the search for the poetics of matter wounded by light.

La serie Optics ofrece una relectura de un estudio analítico de la luz como elemento que dibuja y deforma las imágenes que nos rodean. Se establece un diálogo entre las fotografías de una imagen proyectada en una pantalla y los diagramas que forman parte de un inventario de distorsiones de la luz del siglo XVIII.
En los diagramas ópticos desarrollados por Isaac Newton en 1703, hay una fijación en la descripción de la exactitud de lo tangible y lo intangible. El análisis de Newton sobre cuestiones ópticas se centra en las relaciones recíprocas de la luz y la naturaleza, el comportamiento y las refracciones de la luz a través de diversos objetos, los elementos y los conductores naturales de la luz, como el agua y el aire.
